I am a research scientist at the
Center for Advanced Computer
Science of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Research Interests
My main research interests are in software engineering and human-computer
interaction, but I have broad interests in computing and how it affects
humans.
I have worked in the areas of computer virus analysis
and defense, clone detection, reverse engineering tools, design,
adoption-centric software engineering, usability, cognitive support,
software visualization, program comprehension, program translation,
formal methods and environments, proof environments, and
software copyrights.
I also have keen interests in interdisciplinary
work, privacy, intellectual property, legal aspects of computing,
and open source software.
Current Resarch
My main research is on methods and models for comparing and analyzing
malicious software such as viruses, worms, and Trojans. My focus there
is on program analysis techniques and malware comprehension environments.
A significant chunk of my attention is devoted to the
Vilo
project, which seeks to generate methods for matching malicious programs
such as viruses and worms. We have a lot of other stuff going on in
the lab, though, including transformations for undoing metamorphism,
obfuscation and deobfuscation, malware design spaces, and unpacking.
You can read about several of our projects
here.
