Courses and Educational Activities

  • CMPS 513 - Principle of Computer Communications and Networking (Fall)
  • This course serves as an introduction to computer networks, including networking philosophy, design and implementation.

  • CMPS 575 - Wireless Computing and Network Systems (Spring)
  • The nature of wireless communication and networking differs drastically from wire-line services. These characteristics render protocols designed for wired networks inappropriate. In this course, we will survey and compare the state of the art in wireless computing and network systems that are currently being deployed or are still in the research stages. This includes Broadband wireless (e.g., 802.16), wireless LANs (e.g., 802.11x), Bluetooth, and multi-hop wireless networks such MANETs and sensor ad hoc networks. Specific topics will include medium access control, quality of service, scheduling, location discovery, and routing and topology control in ad hoc networks. Students will be required to conduct a semester project.

  • CMPS 639 - Advanced Topics in Wireless Networks (a research-based course) Fall/Spring
  • This is a research-oriented course that focuses on wireless mobile networks. The main research topics include wireless local area networks (WLAN), wireless personal area networks (PAN), mobile ad hoc networks, sensor networks, 3G and beyond wireless systems, mobile wireless internet, and integrated heterogeneous wireless & wired system.

  • CMPS 534 - Experimental Design and Analysis (Fall)
