This prospectus outlines a plan for the investigation of the influence of spatial context over behavior in preschool-aged children and adult chimpanzees. The spatial context is established by blocks configured in particular topological relations and spatial orientations. The participants add an additional block into each context. The spatial parameters followed in the placement of the additional block can show which parameters are salient to the participants. Two experimental approaches are discussed for addressing both developmental and comparative questions.
