Dr. Biren N. Shah is a Research Scientist at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. For the past five years, he has been involved in various efforts aimed at transferring technology developed at UL Lafayette into commercial use. These and some other research efforts include the development of content-based image retrieval systems, automatic annotation of satellite imagery, domain-specific information retrieval and document management systems, large in-memory data management systems, and image processing tools to create 3D environments for stereo images. Dr. Shah’s specific areas of research interest include information storage and retrieval, database management systems, data warehouses and online analytical processing, semi-structured data management, and data mining and analysis. He has served in various professional capacities and has published over 15 papers in refereed conferences, journals, symposiums, and workshops. From February 2001 to March 2002, he has worked as a Software Engineer at Lucent Technologies. Dr. Shah holds both Doctoral and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Technology from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute, Mumbai. Dr. Shah is a member of the ACM since 2002. |
