Chau Lap Pui received the B. Eng degree with first class honour in Electronic Engineering from Oxford Brookes University, England, and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, in 1992 and 1997, respectively.

In June 1996, he joined Tritech Microelectronics as a senior engineer. Since March 1997, he joined School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore as a research fellow, then assistant professor and currently, he is an associate professor. His research interests include streaming media, animated video processing and VLSI for media signal processing.

He involved in organization committee of international conferences including the IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems ( APCCAS 2006), the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP 2004), and International Conference on Information, Communication and Signal Processing (ICICS 2001). He also involved as a track chair/co-chair in technical committee for some international conferences including International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS 2006, ISCAS 2005), Pacific-Rim Conference on Multimedia (PCM 2003) and International Conference on Information, Communication and Signal Processing (ICICS 2005, ICICS 2001). Besides, he also served as a technical program committee member regularly for many international conferences.

He is a senior member of the IEEE, a member of Technical Committee on Visual Signal Processing and Communications (TC-VSPC), and a member of Technical Committee on Circuits & Systems for Communications (TC-CASC) of IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. He also served as a member of Singapore Digital Television Technical Committee from 1998 to 1999. He is currently serving as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting and an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Multimedia since 2004.
